Rev. Monty Barker was born and raised in the Indianapolis area. He graduated from Plainfield High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Indiana University at the Indianapolis Campus. Before going back to school at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary to earn a Masters Degree in Divinity , he married Kathy in March of 1978. They have two children, Elaine and Jeremy, and a daughter-in-law Erin. Together as a family, they have served at Irvington UMC in Indianapolis, the South Washington Circuit in Fredricksburg, IN, Chester Heights/Webster in Richmond, Connersville Grace, Princeton St. Mark’s which became Hillside UMC, Indpls West Newton, Terre Haute Maple Avenue and Indianapolis Bethel United Methodist. In 1994, Monty went back to school at United Theological Seminary and earned his Doctorate of Ministry.Monty has a passion for Mission. He is on the executive board of Operation Classroom and has had the opportunity to take mission trips to Sierre Leone, Senegal, South Carolina, Mississippi, and Red Bird Mission as well as to have the opportunity to work on local projects after floods, tornados, wind, and fire. He feels that it is a privilege to serve with Bethel United Methodist Church.
