Matthew 6:33 became the scripture for Karen's life t the age of 12.  "but seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."  Therefore, God has always been first and foremost in her life.

Karen has been active in the United Methodist Church all her life, first in Illinois and then Indiana from 1961.  She served in various positions of leadership in the local church, district and conference, including the United Methodist Women's organization.  Karen was a church secretary for 23 years.  As she continued to grow and develop her own spirituality, she came to face her calling from God to pastoral ministry.  She ran from the call for many years.

She received her BLS Degree in 1989 from the University of Evansville.  She then enrolled at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary.  She served two small congregations in Boonville, IN during her years of undergrad and seminary.  Following graduation she served Grandview-Rockport First UMC, then Pfrimmer's Chapel UMC.  In 1999 she began her 13 years of service at Avon UMC, during which the church tripled in size and reached a membership of over 1050 people.  Karen's emphasis during active ministry was prayer, mission, and extending the love of Jesus to all people.

Although "retired" since 2012, Karen is now Associate District Superintendent in the Central Indiana Area.  She tries to live by the Wesleyan principle of "do good all the time."  Karen is married to Ron, a retired professor at the University of Evansville.  They have five children and nine grandchildren.  They live in Avon.  "I love being a Grandma!" says Karen.

Together, I pray that we continue the journey of Bethel UMC for the Kingdom of God.
