1 Peter 4:10 Each of you has received a gift to use to serve others.
Be good servants of God's various gifts of grace.
A glimpse of Missions in Motion ……We DO love our mission work at Bethel! This ministry is interwoven through almost every committee at Bethel, and the designated Mission Committee works to support and promote mission projects whether it is with hands on participation or financial allocation.
Our spring fundraiser will highlight unity of all peoples as we throw a multi-cultural party themed "It's a Small World." The promotion of different countries with their dress, food and beliefs will be explored.
Due to the recent needs of disaster victims in Indiana, elsewhere in the United States, and abroad, we have supported the endeavors of the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR). This organization, whose mission is to alleviate human suffering, responds to natural or human made disasters. The Mission's committee members also collect the necessary materials and pack Cleaning Buckets critical for Disaster Ministry.
In the Spring, we love helping our Youth and Children's Ministry with their efforts to have a neighborhood Easter Egg Hunt for the community.
We have become good friends with the Hoosier Veterans Assistance Foundation (HVAF) and plan a patriotic event in May that highlights our veterans with a flag folding ceremony performed by The Patriot Knights. This service promotes HVAF's assistance and housing for homeless veterans.
In June, we support the National Tay-Sachs and Allied Diseases organization by sponsoring a Father's Day luncheon and butterfly release in memory of Emily Wells who died from Tay-Sachs.
We support Beacon of Hope Center for abused women and children in their endeavor to find transitional housing for the battered, as well as their family pets. We always look forward to having a representative from BOH to speak during Bethel Worship Services.
Our annual summer Yard Sale will be held in the church parking lot. This fundraiser helps us to support Brightwood and Vida Nueva Community Centers in their endeavor to stock their food pantries. We also enjoy helping with Brightwood's summer program for children and donating gently used clothing for their Thrift Store.
On a light-hearted note, we delight in playing B-I-N-G-O with our friends and neighbors from Bloom Senior Living facility.
Our Health Care Ministry, a sub-committee of Missions, will be hosting several blood drives for the Indiana Blood Center. We support the efforts of Life-line Screening and accommodate their needs to hold a screening for the community and members of Bethel.
We've had a long standing relationship with Lebanon Children's Home and look forward to having guest Public Relations speaker, Susan Bennett visit Bethel.
We wrap up the year with the “adoption” of local in-need families at Christmas. We enlist the help from our congregation members to buy clothing items, toys and food for these families. We host a wrapping party where the children and youth of Bethel help to make ready the gifts for delivery.
If any of this looks interesting to you and you like to make things a little easier for others, check us out! The Mission Committee meets at Bethel the first Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. We’d love to hear about your mission’s passions and include you in ours!
