A glimpse of Missions in Motion ……We DO love our mission work at Bethel! This ministry is interwoven through almost every committee at Bethel, and the designated Mission Committee works to support and promote mission projects whether it is with hands on participation or financial allocation.
With the brutal cold Winter we experienced, our efforts turned to collecting hats, scarves, gloves and socks for local Community Centers, Brightwood, Glick and Hoosier Veterans Assistance Foundation. There is always a special intent to collect food pantry items during the Winter for these centers as well as Vida Nueva.
We will be hosting a Chocolate and Children event where we invite the community children to experience using a chocolate fountain, make Valentine crafts and play games. It promises to be great fun!
Due to the ongoing needs of disaster victims in Indiana, elsewhere in the United States, and abroad, we support the endeavors of the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR). This organization, whose mission is to alleviate human suffering, responds to natural or human made disasters. The Mission's committee members also collect the necessary materials and pack Hygiene Kits critical for Disaster Ministry.
In the Spring, we love helping our Youth and Children's Ministry with their efforts to have a neighborhood Easter Egg Hunt for the community.
We have become good friends with the Hoosier Veterans Assistance Foundation (HVAF) and American Legion Post #500 Ladies Auxiliary as we plan a patriotic event in May that highlights our veterans with a flag folding ceremony performed by The Patriot Knights. All of the congregation attending that day receive a memorial poppy. This service promotes HVAF's assistance and housing for homeless veterans.
We are working with the Pike School system to see how we can help the homeless youth in Pike township. Tentative plans involve a gathering at Northwestway Park for Pizza.
On a light-hearted note, we delight in playing B-I-N-G-O with our friends and neighbors from Bloom Senior Living facility.
Our Health Care Ministry, a sub-committee of Missions, supports the efforts of Life-line Screening and will accommodate their needs to hold a screening session for the community and members of Bethel.
We've had a long standing relationship with Lebanon Children's Home. We work with this terrific organization to supply incentive items for their youth.
We wrap up the year with the “adoption” of local in-need families at Christmas. We enlist the help from our congregation members to buy clothing items, toys and food for these families. We host a wrapping party where the children and youth of Bethel help to make ready the gifts for delivery.
If your passion is helping others, check us out! The Mission Committee meets at Bethel the first Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. We are an open group and anxious to hear your ideas!
